【摘要】:Aqualitativeestimateoftheresidualcircumferentialstressinthin-walledtubingmaybecalculatedfromthechangeinoutsidediameterthatoccursuponsplittingalengthofthetubing.Thispracticeassumesalinearstressdistributionthroughthetubewallthicknessandwillnotprovideanestimateoflocalstressdistributionssuchassurfacestresses.(Veryhighlocalresidualstressgradientsarecommonatthesurfaceofmetaltubingduetocolddrawing,peening,grinding,etc.)TheHatfieldandThirkellformula,aslatermodifiedbySachsandEspey,providesasimplemethodforcalculatingtheapproximatecircumferentialstressfromthechangeindiameterofstraight,thin-walled,metaltubing.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
